A writing workshop which will explore creative writing practices grounded in meter, rhythm and auditory perception. Students will work with recordings of various soundscapes, and identify poetic meter in nature as they explore acoustic features and their physiological/psychological effects. This workshop will combine close reading of poems and generative work alongside group discussion. Students might listen to the sound of traffic or a bird’s song, then work to trace those sonic patterns in verse. This hands-on approach hopes to encourage a new way of perceiving poetry as both a written form and an embodied aural event.
