The Charlotte Street Arts Centre is pleased to announce Mike Erb as the 2026 recipient of the Charlotte Glencross Scholarship for Professional Development in the Arts. A current participant of The Globe Photo Academy: Documentary Photography Program offered through The Globe and Mail Foundation, Mike is working to develop an in-depth photo documentary project exploring Fredericton’s historic Devon neighbourhood, where he currently resides.

“Devon is a working class neighbourhood on the city's Northside and like many Canadian neighbourhoods, is rapidly changing due to population growth and gentrification,” said Erb. “Devon’s history, landscapes, and grit yearns to be expanded on through visual storytelling.”

Through the development of this project Mike has been working closely with the cohort and its mentors to examine his individual photographic process.

“The program thus far has helped me define my practice and the outcomes I want to achieve,” he said. “I have a deeper understanding of my process and am working on developing it past the simple act of taking photographs based on seeing something interesting. I have been questioning what my practice is, what is the intent of my process, and how I can develop this process into stronger bodies of work that create a concise narrative.

“The Charlotte Glencross Scholarship will help further the creation of this project and support the time I am dedicating towards its creation with the goal of exhibition and publication opportunities.”

Named to honour one of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s founding volunteers, the Charlotte Glencross Scholarship for Professional Development in the Arts is a $2000 scholarship offered every two years to an artist who is progressing in their professional development through classes, workshops, school, or another professional endeavor. Submissions are reviewed by a four-person jury comprised of members of the Fredericton arts community.
